Gambling giant FanDuel is defending its responsible gambling practices as US lawmakers pressure the sportsbook for details about its VIP program. The company recently launched a webpage called Fast Facts. It provides information on customer spending, betting habits, account security, economic contributions, and procedures to identify signs of gambling-related harm. VIP Inducements Remain Under Scrutiny US lawmakers have asked FanDuel to provide copies of personalized videos sent to customers and explain how it selected the recipients. This inquiry follows a message to a bettor featuring Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper. The customer filed a lawsuit against FanDuel, alleging that the operator encouraged his compulsive betting, leading to losses of over $1.5 million. Lawmakers have questioned whether such messages could lead to harm, especially among people who may already be suffering from financial or behavioral problems. FanDuel insists that it has responsible gambling measures in place for all its customers, including high-value bettors. The company notes that VIP applicants have additional account checks and that staff are trained to recognize possible signs of harm. FanDuel’s new webpage offers more details on these procedures. The company noted that its systems look for patterns, including unusual deposits, long periods on the platform, attempts to chase losses by placing more bets, and problematic interactions with customer service. Automated systems flag potentially harmful activity for human examination. FanDuel Focused on Its Harm Prevention Measures Fast Facts also contains statistics about FanDuel’s activities. The company noted that the average sports bettor spends about $63 a month on wagers. FanDuel’s own data shows the average same-game parlay stake is about $14, with 90% of such bets at $30 or less and 60% at $5 or less. It also reveals that the average sportsbook user deposits less than once a week. FanDuel also shared some of its account security measures. The company reportedly blocked one million account creation attempts within the last year when it could not confirm a user’s identity. It also conducted 58,000 manual responsible gambling reviews. Fast Facts argues that licensed operators benefit the economy with robust consumer safeguards, anti-money-laundering controls, and tax contributions. Depending on the result of the review, customers may be given RG education, have limits placed on their account, or be excluded from FanDuel entirely. FanDuel statement While the Fast Facts page reflects how the company wants its operations to appear to the public, it does not answer many of the lawmakers’ questions. It is still unclear whether VIP benefits could expose customers showing signs of gambling harm to additional risks. The question remains whether these programs can enforce customer loyalty without inducing potentially harmful gambling patterns.
