Matchbook, a peer-to-peer betting exchange and market technology business, announced that it has completed its acquisition of Betdaq, an exchange founded by Dermot Desmond. The former company emphasized that the transaction deepens its liquidity and is consistent with its strategy. The Deal Pairs Betdaq’s Heritage with Matchbook’s Expertise Matchbook noted that Betdaq is one of the first betting exchanges ever. Founded in 2000, Betdaq has over two decades of experience in its sector. Matchbook explained that the acquisition will pair “Betdaq’s heritage with Matchbook’s pricing, liquidity, and technology expertise,” creating what it called a “single, deeper pool.” This means that customers will be able to benefit from tighter spreads, bigger fills, and better prices. Matchbook said that the transaction aligns with the global growth of the peer-to-peer model, which has been further emphasized by the rapid expansion of the prediction markets sector. Following the acquisition, the current Betdaq service, operated by EPS, will remain open for trading until October 21, 2026. Customers will be able to withdraw money until November 4, 2026, and will remain fully protected, in line with Matchbook and Betdaq’s responsibility commitments. Both companies emphasized that they remain committed to an orderly transition. Additional information about key dates and further details concerning customers is available at Betdaq’s official website. The Deal Prioritizes Keeping Customers Safe Ronan McDonagh, Matchbook’s chief executive officer, commented on the acquisition of Betdaq, saying that both companies share the same mission of providing customers with better deals. He added that the transaction fully aligns with this ethos. Our first priority through this transition is Betdaq’s customers: their funds are safe, their options are clear, and in one combined pool they should find better prices and deeper liquidity than either exchange could offer alone. Everything we are doing — this deal included — is about making the exchange first choice. Ronan McDonagh, CEO, Matchbook Just like Betdaq, Matchbook is a betting exchange old-timer, having offered such products for over twenty years. The company recently expanded its business via deals with the likes of easyBet and ADI PredictStreet. Matchbook had been eyeing a prediction market launch in the UK since 2025, when the company started to look for ways to accelerate its evolution.
