Swedish gambling group Betsson reported record Q3 2026 revenues. However, profits were underwhelming due to higher operating costs and a weaker sportsbook margin. While Betsson has demonstrated it can attract new players and generate record revenue, returning to last year’s profitability may prove challenging, as it will depend on contributions from new markets and acquisitions. Expansion May Have Come at a Cost Overall, the results showed the tension between Betsson’s expansion and its ability to turn rising customer numbers into long-term profitability. Revenue increased 10% year-on-year to EUR 327 million, a quarterly record for the company. However, operating income decreased 31% to EUR 46 million, reducing the EBIT margin to 14.1% from 22.6% a year ago. Betsson’s business-to-consumer (B2C) operation drove growth, with segment revenue rising 28% to EUR 280 million. The number of active customers grew 40% to 1.9 million. Customer deposits followed suit, increasing by 6% to EUR 1.55 billion. After these developments, Betsson shares rose 2.88% to $96.45. However, this sum is still far from its 52-week high of $160. Latin America was the best-performing region, with revenue up more than 50%. Peru and Argentina also stood out, with high customer activity driven by FIFA World Cup marketing campaigns. Casino gaming remained the broader group’s most profitable vertical, with revenue up 14% to EUR 254 million. Sports betting revenue grew only 1% to EUR 72 million due to low betting margins. The Company Will Remain on Course According to CEO Pontus Lindwall, customer activity remained high despite the weaker sportsbook margin. Operating income was also up slightly from the second quarter. However, operating cash flow fell to EUR 55 million from EUR 65 million a year earlier, another sign that record sales did not translate to better financial results across the board. “This performance demonstrates the strength of our diversified business model with a broad geographical presence, several strong brands, and competitive offerings in both sports betting and casino that complement each other.” Pontus Lindwall, Betsson CEO Q3 saw Betsson conclude the acquisition of Rhino Entertainment Group. This expansion enhanced the group’s revenue and profitability while bolstering its global reach and commercial options. The company also launched its Betsson flagship brand in Belgium, replacing its betFIRST branding in the country. This change aims to give the group a more consistent international identity. Technology and product development remain a priority. Betsson introduced several new sportsbook features and released new casino games. The company is also implementing AI in product development, customer service, and marketing. Betsson’s next challenges will be maintaining profitability, continuing to expand, and navigating an increasingly complex regulatory landscape.
