BLIK Passes Extra Protections to Curb Use of Payment Processor for Illegal Gambling

BLIK, one of popular’s defining payment processors, has been instructed to start blocking transactions that are placed with illegal gambling operators. BLIK will use the websites listed on the Ministry of Finance’s register of illegal gambling sites as a reference point, blocking all payments both domestically and abroad that are directed at these domains. The swift action seeks to show compliance and ensure that Poland’s leading payment processor, which sifts through 2.9 billion transactions estimated at around $118.56 billion in 2025 alone, is determined to remain compliant with state laws and ensure that its platform is not used to fund illegal gambling operations. Commenting for state news agency PAP, BLIK VP Monika Król has said that the measure came as an additional precaution: “We decided to introduce an additional mechanism to block transactions conducted by entities that are illegal under Polish law.” Poland has been actively seeking to curb the reach of illegal gambling in the country, with currently 55,000 domains listed on the website, and the Ministry of Finance’s list expanding at a pace of about 700 new domains every month. Poland retains its relative state monopoly on gambling and has been keeping tighter consumer protection laws, with a primary target of those being the illicit gambling sector, which continues to attempt to lead consumers away from the regulated offer. The government is working to actively raise awareness of licensed sportsbooks, which include LV Bet, STS, Fortuna, Superbet, Bukmachers, and E-toto Bukmachers.
