Philippine online gaming operator DigiPlus Interactive Corp has launched five new games inspired by the long-running Filipino horror film franchise “Shake, Rattle & Roll”, under a partnership with local film production company Regal Entertainment Inc. The titles – “Manananggal”, “Reyna Ahas”, “Triple Terror”, “LRT Monster”, and “Aswang” – became available on DigiPlus’ BingoPlus platform on Thursday (October 22), according to a company announcement. The games will subsequently be introduced in phases on the group’s other gaming platforms, ArenaPlus and GameZone. DigiPlus said the collaboration formed part of its strategy to expand its portfolio of proprietary and locally developed gaming content, drawing on established Filipino entertainment properties. Ray DeGuzman, head of localisation at DigiPlus, said the company had secured the rights to two additional intellectual properties (IPs) for game development in 2027. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he said the first IP was expected to generate at least nine games in the first quarter of next year, while titles based on the second IP would begin rolling out in the second quarter. He did not disclose more details. Mr DeGuzman said DigiPlus expected to release more than 30 localised games this year, with the possibility of significantly increasing that number in 2027. “Maybe 60 games next year. We’ll see,” he said, stressing that the figure was an aspiration rather than a firm target. He added that slots would remain the focus of the company’s localised content strategy, accounting for about 80 percent of its development efforts, although DigiPlus was also exploring other gaming formats. These include arcade-style games and a locally themed crash game, which he said was expected to launch in December. The Shake, Rattle & Roll film franchise, which saw the first feature released in 1984, is one of the Philippines’ longest-running horror film series, according to the release. Its stories feature creatures from Philippine mythology and local folklore, as well as characters from literary fiction. Mr DeGuzman said the development process involved adapting elements of Filipino folklore into gaming features. “The trick is taking the lore, the fiction or the history and then trying to come up with a game mechanic,” he explained. DigiPlus chairman, Eusebio Tanco, said in prepared remarks that the collaboration with Regal Entertainment was intended to strengthen the company’s gaming content portfolio and expand its digital entertainment offerings. “By combining the film outfit’s strong creative legacy with DigiPlus’ digital capabilities and local market insight, we are creating new opportunities to bring established Filipino entertainment into the digital space, strengthen our content portfolio, and deliver greater value to our audiences,” Mr Tanco stated in the release. Roselle Monteverde, president of Regal Entertainment, said the partnership represented an opportunity to introduce the film franchise to audiences through a different entertainment format. “Our collaboration with DigiPlus opens a new chapter for the franchise, bringing its creative legacy into digital entertainment while preserving the storytelling and cultural identity that have made it enduring,” she added.
