Star Gold Coast casino licence suspension was extended until 31 March 2027. The announcement was made the Queensland government. The extension is based on the suggestions presented by the Special Manager Nicholas Weeks. He marks the casino group as one with considerable achievements in pursuing its reform programme but also describes some of the most urgent matters as remaining unaddressed. In the meantime, there has been the prolongation of Weeks’ appointment, thus ensuring uninterrupted independent monitoring and accompanying oversight of The Star Brisbane using an outside consultant performing this role at the same time. Queensland’s attorney general, Deb Frecklington, said: We have continued to set clear expectations for The Star to ensure the utmost integrity of Queensland’s casino operations. Queenslanders can have full confidence that we will take immediate action if The Star fails to deliver on its obligations. Those expectations remain unchanged and, while I acknowledge the work of The Star to date, this extension will allow The Star to further demonstrate its delivery on key remediation commitments under the agreement. The suspension is not being extended for a first time. It has been delayed for multiple times already. It was previously pushed back from March 2025 to September 2026. The Star began to come under scrutiny in Queensland in 2022 and was declared unsuitable for licensing in October of that same year. Apart from the penalties and Weeks appointment, the license was suspended for duration of 90 days. It is noted that the government of Queensland cited the delay to the detailed document submitted by Weeks.
